Everlasting

Using skills in sculpture and crochet, I came up with this piece, Everlasting. The use of both ceramics and crochet creates a fusion of two traditional crafts that are often passed down through generations which connects to my love crochet which I learned from my mother. Ceramics is known for it’s durability and crochet, often associated with heirloom craftsmanship, both carry an inherent sense of permanence. The title “Everlasting” speaks to the timeless beauty of these materials, suggesting that, like the vase and flowers, the art will endure through time. Furthermore, flowers often symbolize life, growth, and beauty, but they are also fleeting, reminding us of the passage of time. By using crocheted flowers into a ceramic vase, you turn something temporary into something permanent. The title “Everlasting” juxtaposes the natural ephemerality of flowers with their eternal form in your artwork, suggesting that beauty and art can transcend time.
